Video Won't Open
MP4 or MOV files with a damaged index (moov atom) — we rebuild the structure so it plays again.
CHIPSCAT STUDIO
A wedding video that won't open. Dashcam footage of the moment that matters. A recording that never saved.
We repair files by hand — free assessment first, and a quote only if it can be fixed.
If a video or audio file will not open, plays wrong, or sounds bad — send it over and we will tell you honestly whether it can be fixed.
MP4 or MOV files with a damaged index (moov atom) — we rebuild the structure so it plays again.
Recordings cut off by a dead battery, crash or pulled card — including fragmented data reassembly.
Voice memos and recordings that will not open or play no sound — from phones, recorders and cameras.
Wind, hum and background noise removed; distorted or too-quiet speech made clear enough to follow.
ProRes, MXF, 360° and drone footage that consumer repair tools do not recognise.
Then you are exactly who this service is for.
Automated repair tools work by borrowing the structure of a healthy video from the same camera. When there is no reference file, when the damage is inside the stream, or when the data is fragmented across a memory card, they give up — and report your file as unrecoverable.
We do it differently: a person opens your file in a hex editor, reads the actual byte structure, and rebuilds what is missing. That is slower than a batch tool, but it recovers a meaningful number of files the tools have already given up on. And because we assess every file by hand first, you get a straight answer — either it is recoverable and we quote you, or it is not, and we tell you exactly why. Our guides explain the whole process with nothing held back.
We are a small studio based in Taiwan (GMT+8) and work with clients worldwide by email — that is why every reply is within 48 hours, whatever your time zone.
No account, no upload portal, no payment upfront. Just email us a link to the file.
Upload the file to Google Drive, Dropbox or WeTransfer and send us the link — form below or plain email.
We open the file, examine its structure and work out what is actually wrong.
Within 48 hours: either a quote, or an honest "this cannot be recovered" and why.
Nothing proceeds until you approve the quote. If we cannot recover it, you pay nothing.
Tell us what happened and where the file is. We reply within 48 hours.
Prefer plain email? Write to cornmonster2018@gmail.com — the same details help: a link to the file, the device it came from, and what happened.
The assessment is free. If the file can be repaired we send you a quote for that specific job, and nothing proceeds until you approve it. If we cannot recover it, you pay nothing.
Automated tools usually need a healthy reference video from the same camera and settings. Manual repair can rebuild the missing structure without a reference file, which is why files marked unrecoverable by automated tools are often still recoverable.
We reply to every enquiry within 48 hours. The repair itself depends on the type of damage: a container rebuild can take under an hour, while reassembling fragmented data from a card can take several days.
No. Repair rebuilds the file's structure around the existing data, so the frames and audio that survive are recovered at their original quality. Data that was never written cannot be restored.
MP4, MOV, M4V, MXF, AVI, MKV, 3GP and INSV, plus audio formats including M4A, MP3 and WAV — and footage from GoPro, DJI, Insta360, iPhone, Android, dashcams and the major camera brands. Other formats are welcome, just ask.
Your files are never shared with anyone and our working copies are deleted after the job is finished. If your footage is sensitive, say so in your message and we will confirm the handling and deletion timeline in writing before you send anything.
Not sure what kind of damage you are dealing with? These guides help you work it out before you send anything.
Send it over. An honest answer within 48 hours — and no charge unless you approve a quote.
